Hiiba reuse app offers free household items

The Hiiba reuse app connects people across the UAE to give away and receive furniture, electronics, clothing and other everyday items for free, helping households save money, reduce waste and embrace sustainable living.

SHARJAH: UAE residents can now give away unwanted household items or find useful products without spending money through the Hiiba reuse app, a community-focused platform designed to make sustainable living easier.

Founded in Sharjah in March 2026 and launched across the Emirates in May, the free application connects people who have reusable possessions with others who need them.

From furniture and electronics to clothing, books and children’s toys, the platform encourages residents to share useful items instead of throwing them away.

How does the free reuse app work?

The platform allows users to photograph and list unwanted possessions, browse available products nearby and arrange direct handovers with other members. Unlike traditional online marketplaces, there are no buying or selling transactions between users. Items are given away free of charge.

Available on Apple iOS and Android devices, the application features location-based discovery and verified accounts to help users connect with their communities. The Hiiba reuse app also introduces an Eco Rewards system that awards points for successful exchanges, encouraging people to make sharing a regular habit.

Members can use reward points to message other users, creating a system that recognises participation while limiting unnecessary communication.

Why is reuse becoming important in the UAE?

Frequent relocations, household upgrades and changing lifestyles can leave residents with furniture, appliances and other possessions that remain perfectly usable. Rather than allowing these items to become waste, Hiiba encourages owners to extend their useful life by passing them to someone else.

Jérôme Viricel, Co-founder of Hiiba, said the company wants to make reuse a natural first choice rather than an afterthought. The approach could particularly benefit students, newly arrived residents and families seeking household essentials without additional expenditure.

Businesses and communities can also participate

Beyond individual exchanges, Hiiba is developing a programme for businesses and residential communities to encourage sustainable consumption. Its planned Hiiba for Business initiative aims to help organisations engage employees in reuse activities, record participation and estimate environmental benefits.

The initiative also promotes community generosity through the sharing of useful possessions.

Where can residents download Hiiba?

The Hiiba reuse app is available across the UAE through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Residents can visit www.hiiba.ae for further information and links to download the application.

Impact to expect

Hiiba could help UAE households reduce unnecessary spending, keep reusable goods out of waste streams and strengthen community connections. If widely adopted, the platform may also encourage businesses and residents to support the country’s circular economy ambitions through simple, everyday sharing habits.
