ABU DHABI: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced the establishment of Zayed the Founder Day, which will be observed annually on January 7. The new national occasion will honour the life, achievements and enduring legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father.
The announcement, made on October 28, 2026, aims to strengthen national identity and ensure Sheikh Zayed’s principles continue inspiring future generations.
Celebrating Sheikh Zayed’s Vision and Values
Zayed the Founder Day will highlight the leadership, generosity and humanitarian values that shaped the UAE’s development. The occasion will encourage citizens and residents to reflect on Sheikh Zayed’s contributions to national unity, social progress and international cooperation.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed emphasised that the Founding Father’s belief in unity, generosity and responsibility towards future generations remains central to the country’s identity and progress.
The initiative will also encourage younger generations to understand the values that guided the UAE’s establishment and apply them in everyday life.
Schools and Communities to Participate
The Founder’s Office will lead the initiative, bringing together government institutions, educational organisations, communities and families.
Activities will focus on education, culture, research, heritage and public engagement. Programmes will extend beyond January 7, encouraging year-round participation.

Honouring the UAE’s Founding Father
Sheikh Zayed led the establishment of the United Arab Emirates on December 2, 1971, and served as its first President until 2004.
His leadership helped establish the foundations of the country’s development, humanitarian engagement and national unity.
