RTA will open the last bridge in the AED696 million World Trade Centre Roundabout project, completing five bridges spanning 5km. The new Al Majlis Street–2nd December Street connection is expected to cut that journey from six minutes to one
DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the final bridge of the AED 696 million World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project on Friday, October 30. The opening marks the completion of five bridges spanning a combined five kilometres, improving traffic movement across one of Dubai’s busiest intersections.
The project aims to reduce congestion, shorten journey times and improve connectivity between major roads serving Dubai’s commercial and residential districts.
New Bridge Cuts Travel Time
The final bridge connects Al Majlis Street with 2nd December Street, providing motorists with a more direct route through the World Trade Centre area. The 1,000-metre bridge features two lanes and can accommodate approximately 3,000 vehicles per hour. RTA expects the new connection to reduce travel time from six minutes to just one minute. The wider development is also expected to reduce average waiting times at the junction from 12 minutes to 90 seconds.
Five Bridges Improve Traffic Flow
The completed project includes five bridges designed to replace the former roundabout’s congested traffic movements with smoother connections. The upgraded junction links Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Rashid Street, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Al Majlis Street and 2nd December Street.
These improvements will benefit more than 500,000 residents and visitors travelling through surrounding areas, including Al Satwa, Al Karama and Al Jafiliya.
Supporting Dubai’s Road Network
The development forms part of RTA’s wider strategy to expand road capacity and improve transport infrastructure across Dubai. The upgraded connections will also improve access to Dubai World Trade Centre and nearby business districts.
Impact to Expect
Motorists can expect shorter journeys, reduced congestion and smoother traffic movement, particularly during major exhibitions and events. The project will also support Dubai’s growing population and strengthen connectivity between key residential and commercial areas.
