Jailer 2 action director Chethan D’Souza confirms Mohanlal performed the climax car scene himself, dismissing body double rumours
MUMBAI: The makers of Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 have addressed growing speculation about Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s appearance in the film’s climax. Action director Chethan Ramshi D’Souza confirmed that Mohanlal personally performed the much-discussed car sequence.
The controversy began after fans questioned the actor’s limited screen time and alleged that a body double had replaced him in important scenes.
Action director clarifies controversy
Chethan recently shared an Instagram post with cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan, praising his work on the film’s action sequences.
A fan questioned whether Mohanlal’s introduction had been shortened and whether a double had performed the climax car scene.
Chethan dismissed the second claim with a brief response: “It’s him.”
However, he did not address questions about scenes reportedly removed from the final version.
Mohanlal’s stand-in explains his role
Mimicry artist Jobi Kodakara, who worked as Mohanlal’s stand-in, also clarified his involvement.
Speaking on the Jango Space YouTube channel, Jobi said he appeared in only a few shots involving hands and legs.
These included close-up driving sequences showing someone changing gears and pressing the accelerator.
Jobi confirmed that his face does not appear in the climax. He also denied being the person viewers identified as Mohanlal’s replacement.
The rumours intensified after Jobi shared photographs from the film’s sets wearing Mohanlal’s costume.
Jailer 2 sparks fan debate
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 reunites Rajinikanth with several prominent Indian actors.
The film’s climax features Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff.

Impact to expect
The clarification may settle speculation surrounding the climax. However, questions about Mohanlal’s reduced screen time remain unanswered.
The controversy also highlights growing audience scrutiny of celebrity appearances and editing decisions in major Indian films.
