Tanishq rate lock protects festive gold buyers

by WM_admin

The Tanishq rate lock lets UAE shoppers secure a gold price with a 20 per cent advance ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali.

DUBAI: Gold buyers in the UAE have received some relief after Dubai prices slipped below Dh500 per gram for 24K gold on October 7, adding fresh relevance to the Tanishq rate lock available ahead of the festive buying season.

Dubai’s 24K gold opened at Dh498.25 per gram on Wednesday, down from Dh504 on Tuesday, while prices moved lower again during the day. Internationally, spot gold also fell to a two-month low as a stronger US dollar and higher Treasury yields weighed on the precious metal.

How the gold rate lock works

Tanishq Middle East’s ongoing offer allows customers at its UAE stores to select jewellery and pay 20 per cent of the value in advance.

Under the Tanishq rate lock, buyers can then complete their purchase later. If the gold rate rises after booking, the rate fixed when the advance was paid applies. If the rate drops before the final purchase, customers can benefit from the lower rate, according to the offer details provided by the company.

The promotion runs until November 8, covering the important Dhanteras and Diwali shopping period.

Why gold price swings matter before Diwali

Gold purchases typically increase around Dhanteras, which falls on November 6 in Dubai this year, followed by Diwali on November 8. The festival period also overlaps with the beginning of the winter wedding season for many Indian and South Asian families.

For buyers planning larger jewellery purchases, fluctuations of even a few dirhams per gram can materially change the final bill.

That makes price certainty particularly relevant for families budgeting in advance for wedding jewellery, festive gifts or larger traditional purchases.

Buyers get protection if prices move either way

The appeal of the Tanishq rate lock is that customers do not have to rely entirely on predicting where gold prices will move next.

A customer can secure the current rate with the advance payment, while retaining the benefit of a lower price if gold becomes cheaper before the transaction is completed.

Wednesday’s decline also highlights how quickly the market can change. Dubai 24K gold stood above Dh500 per gram only a day earlier, while prices have seen much higher levels during recent weeks.

Festive gold buying enters focus

With Dhanteras now a month away, UAE jewellery retailers are entering one of their most important seasonal periods.

For shoppers, the immediate question may be less about whether gold will rise or fall and more about how much price uncertainty they are prepared to accept before making a planned festive or wedding purchase.

Impact to expect

Gold-price volatility could encourage more UAE shoppers to consider rate-locking options ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali, particularly those planning larger jewellery purchases or wedding-related spending.
