Developer creates free AI job search tool after wife’s struggle

by Team DTN

A software developer has transformed his wife’s frustrating job search into an artificial intelligence tool that could help thousands of people navigate the competitive employment market. After watching his wife, a junior software engineer, struggle to secure employment for nearly 10 months, he developed Dossier, an AI-powered job search assistant.

The developer, known online as AienTech, reportedly created the platform to simplify the repetitive process of finding vacancies, preparing resumes and managing applications. His wife eventually secured employment using the tool, prompting him to release the software publicly for free.

How Dossier simplifies job applications

Dossier brings several job search functions into one platform, allowing applicants to discover opportunities across LinkedIn, Indeed and other recruitment sources through integrated job search services.

The tool analyses individual job descriptions and compares their requirements with a candidate’s professional profile. It then generates customised resumes and cover letters while offering 12 resume templates.

Unlike some AI-generated applications, Dossier is designed to avoid inventing qualifications or work experience. Instead, it identifies missing skills and highlights relevant information already provided by the applicant.

Privacy and free access

The platform supports self-hosting and integrates with local AI services such as Ollama and LM Studio, giving users greater control over their personal information. Applicants can also track applications from initial drafts to potential job offers. While the software is open-source, hosting and certain AI services may involve additional expenses.

Impact to Expect

Dossier highlights how accessible AI tools could reduce administrative work for job seekers, particularly fresh graduates and professionals applying to multiple positions. By simplifying resume preparation and application tracking, such platforms could help candidates focus more on interview preparation and career development, although they cannot guarantee employment.
