Created in partnership with Zee Music, the show aims to discover the next generation of Tamil rap talent while celebrating authentic storytelling, lyrical creativity and individual musical identity.

The competition features acclaimed musicians Yogi B, Arivu and Sean Roldan as judges, offering contestants guidance and evaluation across different aspects of rap and music production.

How does the Tamil rap competition work?

The show begins with a cypher, introducing contestants through performances reflecting their personal experiences, musical influences and individual identities.

Subsequent episodes feature weekly themes designed to test lyrical ability, creativity, storytelling and stage presence.

Outstanding performers receive recognition through the Thee Meter, while leading contestants earn places on the Wall of Fame.

Those delivering weaker performances enter the Danger Zone, where they face elimination.

A DJ/Big Bro character connects contestants and judges, introduces challenges and guides viewers through the competition.

Yogi B, Arivu and Sean Roldan lead the judging panel

Yogi B, a prominent figure in Tamil hip-hop, emphasised the importance of originality, meaningful lyrics and respect for hip-hop culture.

He said: “Be true to yourself, mean what you say and stand for what you represent.”

Arivu highlighted rap’s ability to communicate lived experiences and personal identities, encouraging participants to develop their own voices rather than imitate established artists.

Sean Roldan focused on musical experimentation, explaining that the competition gives performers opportunities to interpret different themes and develop distinctive sounds.

Together, the judges bring expertise in rap technique, songwriting, composition and live performance.

Where can viewers watch the show?

Thee Kural is available exclusively on ZEE5, with Tamil-language audio and English and Hindi subtitles listed on the streaming platform.

The series targets audiences interested in independent music, regional entertainment and the growing influence of Tamil hip-hop.

Its emphasis on original compositions distinguishes the programme from conventional singing competitions built around familiar songs.

Impact to expect

The competition could provide emerging Tamil rappers with wider recognition across India and international Tamil-speaking communities, including audiences in the UAE. By combining regional-language storytelling with a global streaming platform, the programme may create opportunities for independent musicians and encourage greater investment in Tamil hip-hop entertainment.
