Saudi Arabia intercepts another Houthi missile as regional tensions disrupt flights. Etihad extends cancellations until November 5, while Emirates plans to resume Jeddah services

RIYADH: Saudi-led coalition forces have intercepted another ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement towards eastern Saudi Arabia. The latest incident comes amid escalating regional tensions and continued disruptions to international aviation.

The coalition reported intercepting the missile on October 29, following several attacks targeting Saudi territory. Earlier interceptions involved ballistic missiles and drones aimed at the kingdom’s eastern and southern regions.

Houthi Attacks Raise Aviation Concerns

The latest missile interception follows renewed security threats across the region, including reported attacks affecting Aden airport in Yemen. Saudi authorities have strengthened security measures around critical infrastructure as regional airlines continue reviewing flight operations.

Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport partially reopened on October 25 following earlier disruptions. However, several international airlines have maintained temporary flight suspensions.

Etihad and Emirates Update Saudi Flights

Etihad Airways has extended cancellations between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh and Dammam through November 5. Selected Jeddah services also remain suspended. Meanwhile, Emirates has scheduled the resumption of Dubai-Jeddah flights from Friday, October 30.

Services to Riyadh and Dammam are currently expected to resume on November 8. Flydubai has also scheduled flights to Riyadh, Dammam and Abha from October 30, subject to operational conditions.

Passengers Advised to Check Flight Status

Travellers should verify flight schedules before leaving for airports, as regional security developments could trigger further changes. Passengers affected by cancellations should contact their airlines for rebooking and refund options.

Impact to Expect

Continued missile threats could prolong aviation disruptions across Saudi Arabia and neighbouring countries. Although some UAE airlines are preparing to restore services, flight schedules remain dependent on security assessments.
