Dubai unveils the rare 888.88-carat Infinity black diamond at the Dubai Diamond Conference 2026, highlighting the emirate’s growing influence in global diamond trading
DUBAI: An extraordinary 888.88-carat natural black diamond, named Infinity, has been unveiled at the Dubai Diamond Conference 2026, attracting international attention for its exceptional size and rarity.
The diamond made its public debut on October 26 at the event organised by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). Antwerp-based Diamond Trading NV presented the gemstone, while security company Brink’s managed its transportation.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) previously recognised the original rough stone as the largest single-crystal natural diamond it had examined and documented at that time.
From 1,138-Carat Rough Stone to Infinity
The diamond originated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Andrew Coxon acquired the original 1,138-carat rough stone in 1975 on behalf of De Beers.
GIA examined the rough diamond in 2013. Expert craftsmen later transformed it into the finished 888.88-carat gemstone between 2022 and 2024.
The cutting process preserved the stone’s distinctive natural characteristics while highlighting its unusual appearance.
Unlike conventional colourless diamonds, Infinity features a striking black colour that adds to its appeal among collectors.
Dubai Strengthens Global Diamond Trade
The unveiling formed part of the seventh Dubai Diamond Conference, which brought together industry leaders, investors and government representatives.
DMCC also announced a partnership with HRD Antwerp to expand diamond education and professional training.
Dubai recorded $41.7 billion in diamond trade during 2025, reinforcing its position as a major international trading centre.
Industry discussions focused on strengthening demand for natural diamonds, improving transparency and exploring new investment opportunities.
Impact to Expect
Infinity’s unveiling could attract greater international attention to Dubai’s luxury gemstone market. The exhibition also highlights the emirate’s role in diamond trading, craftsmanship and investment.
