Etihad Rail bridge opens five-minute Metro connection

by WM_admin

Dubai’s new 375-metre Etihad Rail bridge connects Al Yalayis Station with Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station in approximately five minutes, offering commuters an air-conditioned walkway, moving travelators and easier access to the Metro Red Line

DUBAI: Commuters travelling between Dubai Metro and the UAE’s national railway can now switch between the two networks in approximately five minutes following the opening of a new pedestrian connection. The Etihad Rail bridge links Dubai Al Yalayis Station directly with Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station, making journeys more convenient without requiring a taxi or separate road transfer.

Etihad Rail announced details of the 375-metre bridge on October 16, 2026, following its opening to passengers on October 15. The connection provides direct access to Dubai Metro’s Red Line.

Where is the new Dubai Metro pedestrian bridge?

The bridge connects Dubai Al Yalayis Station, which serves Etihad Rail’s passenger network, with Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station.

Passengers can reach the elevated walkway through the Metro station’s Exit 1 or Exit 2, following directional signs towards Etihad Rail.

The enclosed bridge is air-conditioned and equipped with moving travelators, escalators and staircases, making the transfer more comfortable, particularly for passengers carrying luggage.

How long does the walk take?

According to Etihad Rail, the crossing takes approximately five minutes.

Reports from passengers and journalists indicate that the complete transfer between stations generally takes five to seven minutes, depending on walking speed.

The Etihad Rail bridge allows travellers to complete the transfer without crossing surrounding roads or arranging additional transport.

Can passengers still use shuttle buses?

Yes. The existing shuttle bus connection between the two stations remains available.

Travellers who prefer not to walk, particularly families with children or passengers carrying heavy luggage, can continue using the shuttle service.

This gives commuters greater flexibility when switching between the Metro and the national railway network.

Can passengers use one ticket for both networks?

Etihad Rail has introduced integrated journey booking with Dubai’s Nol public transport system.

Passengers can arrange eligible train and Dubai public transport journeys through a single transaction, using a QR code to access the relevant services.

This integration is designed to make transfers between Etihad Rail and Dubai’s Metro, tram and bus networks more convenient.

Travellers should check the applicable ticket options and conditions when booking.

Which destinations can travellers reach?

Passengers arriving at Dubai Al Yalayis Station can use the Red Line to continue towards major destinations, including Dubai Marina, Business Bay and Downtown Dubai.

Similarly, Dubai Metro passengers can access Etihad Rail services connecting the emirate with destinations including Abu Dhabi and Fujairah.

Impact to expect

The Etihad Rail bridge could reduce reliance on taxis and private vehicles for station transfers. By connecting intercity trains directly with Dubai Metro, the new walkway offers residents and visitors a simpler public transport journey while strengthening connections across the UAE.
