GEMS Education has unveiled GR8 School, combining personalised AI learning, human mentors and industry expertise, with a January 2027 launch planned.
DUBAI: GEMS Education has unveiled GR8 School, a new learning model that could change how students experience education in Dubai by combining artificial intelligence, individual teacher mentoring and practical industry experience. Announced on October 8, 2026, the initiative is scheduled for a soft launch in January 2027.
Unlike conventional classrooms where students generally follow a shared timetable, the new model will allow children to progress through academic subjects at their own pace, supported by technology that continuously evaluates their understanding.
How will AI and teachers work together?
The approach centres on three elements: AI-powered personalised learning, dedicated human mentors and exposure to real-world expertise.
Students will use adaptive learning technology to identify academic strengths, address knowledge gaps and move towards more challenging material when ready.
Teachers will remain responsible for academic standards, practical instruction and student development. Instead of spending most of their time delivering whole-class lessons, they will provide more individual guidance and targeted support.
Industry professionals and specialists will also help students explore potential careers, develop practical skills and connect academic subjects with real-life applications.
What will a typical school day look like?
The GR8 School model proposes a flexible daily schedule combining independent study with approximately 90 minutes to two hours of teacher-led learning.
Students will also participate in another two to three hours of enrichment activities involving creative projects, sport, arts, collaboration and practical experiences.
The approach aims to develop communication, critical thinking, financial literacy and teamwork alongside traditional academic achievement.
Initially, the programme will operate as a separate learning pathway within existing GEMS schools rather than as an entirely independent campus.
How much could the new learning model cost?
GEMS has indicated annual fees of approximately $8,000 to $10,000 for affordable offerings and $20,000 to $40,000 for premium options.
These figures remain indicative, with final fees depending on the school, location and programme structure.
The education provider also acknowledges that greater independence and self-directed learning may not suit every student.
When will the first school open?
The first GR8 School is expected to begin its soft launch in January 2027.
Before opening, GEMS plans to continue testing its educational technology, academic framework, mentoring arrangements and partnerships with industry specialists.
Further information about participating campuses, admissions and final fees is expected closer to launch.
Impact to expect
For Dubai families, the initiative could introduce a new alternative to conventional schooling, particularly for children who benefit from personalised support and flexible learning. Its longer-term influence will depend on academic outcomes, affordability and how effectively teachers and technology work together.
