IndiGo Fuel Surcharge Rises to ₹10,000 From October 6

by WM_admin

IndiGo has revised its fuel charges for all new bookings from October 6, 2026, adding ₹375 to ₹1,300 on domestic flights and as much as ₹10,000 on international routes as aviation fuel costs climb.

IndiGo passengers will pay higher fuel charges on new bookings from October 6 after the airline revised its surcharge structure in response to rising aviation turbine fuel, or ATF, prices.

India’s largest airline said the latest month-on-month increase in ATF prices exceeded 14%, pushing fuel costs to among their highest levels in a decade. The revised charges apply to bookings made from 12:01 am on October 6, 2026.

How much will domestic flyers pay?

The surcharge will depend on flight distance:

  • Up to 500 km: ₹375
  • 501 to 1,000 km: ₹600
  • 1,001 to 1,500 km: ₹900
  • 1,501 to 2,000 km: ₹1,150
  • Above 2,000 km: ₹1,300

The latest adjustment means domestic passengers could pay up to ₹350 more in fuel charges than under the previous structure, depending on the route.

International flights face higher charges

The impact is significantly greater on overseas routes.

Passengers flying to SAARC destinations will face charges ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000, while flights to Southeast Asia, the GCC and wider Middle East, as well as North and East Asia, will attract a ₹5,500 fuel charge.

Flights to Africa will carry a ₹6,000 charge, while passengers travelling to Europe could pay up to ₹10,000.

Why has IndiGo raised the surcharge?

IndiGo said fuel prices have remained volatile amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

ATF represents a major portion of airline operating costs, and higher fuel prices are affecting network economics and overall expenses. IndiGo described the latest increase as a measured adjustment intended to recover only part of the additional cost.

The airline said it will continue monitoring fuel prices and could make further adjustments if conditions change.

Impact to expect

Travellers booking domestic and international journeys from October 6 should expect higher final ticket prices, particularly on long-haul routes. The impact could be more noticeable during India’s festive travel season, when base fares are already elevated on several routes.
