ABU DHABI: Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, has reaffirmed the strength of UAE-Saudi relations following high-level defence discussions between the two Gulf nations.

His remarks followed a meeting between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defence, Prince Khalid bin Salman, in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, October 18.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, addressing regional developments and promoting lasting peace and stability.

Shared security and strategic partnership

Gargash described the UAE-Saudi relationship as a cornerstone of Gulf stability and prosperity.

In a statement on X, he emphasised that both countries share security interests and a common future.

He also highlighted the leadership of both nations in maintaining cooperation during periods of regional uncertainty.

The meeting reinforced their commitment to expanding coordination across multiple sectors while protecting shared strategic interests.

High-level leadership discussions

The meeting included Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court.

Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, also attended.

Both sides reviewed regional developments and discussed ways to strengthen security and stability across the Middle East.

Growing focus on Gulf security

The talks came amid escalating regional tensions and attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.

He urged renewed coordination among Gulf Cooperation Council members to address emerging security challenges.

Impact to Expect

Closer UAE-Saudi coordination could strengthen Gulf security cooperation and diplomatic engagement. The partnership may also support regional stability, investment confidence and economic cooperation amid continuing geopolitical tensions
